THE OLD PERFUME FACTORY, TWICKENHAM
The Old Perfume Factory was a completely derelict industrial building we bought at auction.
Our aim was to preserve the character of the property and to create something which would make the best use of the site. Great pains were taken to get the best internal arrangement and in establishing a small palette of materials which both echoed the building’s past and would provide a practical and attractive home environment.
The building incorporated high levels of thermal and sound insulation together with many built-in features to help keep down occupation costs, whilst providing a stimulating home environment.
The site had many restrictions, both physical and legal, which had to be overcome. The property backs onto an historic wall and school, has very restricted access and is located in a Conservation Area.
By engaging with the local community we obtained planning consent for change of use and redevelopment.
The project took a lot of time, patience and perseverance and we spent a lot of effort getting it “right”. Both we and the local community were all very pleased with the result which sold off market for a good price, (including all fixtures and furnishing). The buyers were a local couple who work in fashion and wanted something “other than the standard Victorian house.”
